Understanding Enrichment in the Mobile App

This article covers what enrichment is, how it works in the Popl mobile app, and what members need to know for a smooth experience.

Overview

Required subscriptions: AI enrichment is available exclusively for our Teams plans: Digital Business Card and Event Lead Capture.

What is Enrichment?

Enrichment is Popl's AI-powered data engine that automatically fills in missing information about your leads. When you capture a lead, enrichment takes the basic information you have and expands it with valuable firmographic, contact, and company data.

Instead of manually researching each contact, enrichment delivers:

  • Verified work email addresses

  • Phone numbers (up to 3 validated numbers)

  • Job titles and LinkedIn profiles

  • Company details (industry, size, revenue, funding, website, and more)

How Does Enrichment Work?

Popl uses waterfall enrichment, which means we aggregate data from over 20 data partners to find the most accurate and up-to-date information. If one source doesn't have the data, we check the next, and so on.

After the waterfall process, our proprietary AI agents step in to boost match rates from the industry standard of ~65% to an exceptional 90%+.

What Enrichment Requires to Function

Minimum required inputs for enrichment:

  • Full Name + Company Name

  • OR just a LinkedIn URL

Without these inputs, enrichment cannot run.

If Full Name or Company Name is Missing

If the lead's full name or company name is not available (e.g., from a badge scan or business card), enrichment will not be able to process that lead.

Fallback options:

  1. LinkedIn URL: If you have the lead's LinkedIn profile, enrichment can still run

  2. Manual entry: Members can manually add the missing name or company during the conversation

  3. Edit later: Update the lead record in the app or dashboard to trigger enrichment

Where is Enrichment Located in the App?

DBC (Digital Business Cards) / Lite

  • Enrichment runs automatically after a lead is captured

  • Enriched data fields appear on the lead detail screen

  • Look for the enrichment indicator showing which fields were enhanced

ELC (Event Lead Capture)

  • Enrichment triggers after badge scans or lead capture form submissions

  • Visible on individual lead records

  • Enriched fields display alongside captured data

How Long Does Enrichment Take?

Enrichment typically completes in 3 to 15 seconds.

What It Looks Like On Screen

  • You may see a brief loading indicator while enrichment processes

  • Once complete, enriched fields will populate automatically

  • If enrichment is still running, some fields may appear empty initially and fill in moments later

Pro Tip: Don't wait for enrichment to finish before moving on. Continue your conversation naturally!

Working Around Any Delay

Members can easily work around enrichment delays by continuing the conversation while data processes in the background.

Best practices:

  • Capture the lead and keep talking, enrichment happens automatically

  • Answer Lead Qualifiers while enrichment processes are in the background

  • Focus on building rapport rather than watching the screen

  • Check back on the lead later for full enriched data

  • Use the dashboard for a complete view after the event

Poor Service or No Reception

Enrichment requires an internet connection to process.

What Happens with Poor/No Service:

  • Lead data is stored locally on the device

  • Enrichment will queue and process once connectivity is restored

  • No data is lost; the lead is saved regardless of connection status

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Verify the venue's WiFi or switch to cellular data

  • Check if the issue is venue-specific

  • If delays persist, WiFi logs are available for 2 weeks (internal dev team request)

Why Enrichment May Fail or Be Inaccurate

Enrichment is powerful, but not 100% accurate every time. Here's why:

Common Reasons for Failure:

Reason

Explanation

Missing required inputs

No full name + company name, and no LinkedIn

Uncommon or new company

Small businesses or startups may not be in data sources yet

Outdated public data

The lead recently changed jobs or companies

Misspelled names

Typos in the name or company can prevent matches

Poor connectivity

The request may time out before completion

Why Data May Be Inaccurate:

  • Data partners may have outdated records

  • Multiple people with the same name at the same company

  • Company mergers, acquisitions, or rebrands not yet reflected

Popl prioritizes accuracy over volume; we'd rather return no data than incorrect data.
