Filters let you narrow down your leads based on specific criteria, whether you are searching your Leads page, routing leads through Dynamic Sync, or sending different follow-up emails based on what a lead shared.
The operators available to you, meaning the comparison options like "Contains" or "Is Set," change depending on the type of field you are filtering and where in Popl you are building the filter. This article breaks down what each operator does and where you will find it.
Where You'll Build Filters
You can apply filters in three places:
Leads page. Filter your lead list to find specific groups of leads.
Dynamic Sync. Route leads to different destinations based on their field values.
Dynamic Follow-Up. Send different follow-up emails based on what a lead entered or how they were captured.
Most field types offer similar operators across all three, but there are some differences. Those are covered later in this article.
Filter Types and Their Operators
Field Type | Applies To | Available Operators |
Free Text | Name, Email, Company Name, phone number, and other plain-text fields | Contains, Does Not Contain, Is, Is Not, Is Set, Is Not Set |
Numeric | Number-based custom fields | Equals, Greater Than, Less Than, Is Set, Is Not Set |
Date | Date Captured and other date fields | Is (exact day), Is After, Is Before, Is Set, Is Not Set. Is Between is also available in Dynamic Sync and Dynamic Follow-Up. |
Single Select | Single-select custom fields | Is (exact match), Is Any Of, Is Not, Is Set, Is Not Set |
Multi Select | Multi-select custom fields | Is (exact match), Is Any Of, Is Not, Is Set, Is Not Set |
Boolean / Opt-In | Checkbox or opt-in fields | Checked, Unchecked (labeled "Is Checked" / "Is Unchecked" in Dynamic Sync and Follow-Up) |
File / Attachment | Uploaded file fields | Is Set, Is Not Set |
Lead Owner | The teammate assigned to a lead | Is Any Of, Is Not, Is Set, Is Not Set on the Leads page. Is Any Of and Is Not only in Dynamic Sync and Follow-Up. |
Lead Owner Subteam | The subteam a lead's owner belongs to | Is Any Of, Is Not everywhere, plus Is Set and Is Not Set on the Leads page |

Lead Type | How the lead was captured (badge scan, business card, manual entry, form, CSV import) | Is (exact match), Is Any Of, Is Not, Is Set, Is Not Set |
Sync & Export | Whether and how a lead was synced or exported | Successful Sync, Unsuccessful Sync, Any Sync Attempt, No Sync Attempt, Exported to CSV, No CSV Export (Leads page only) |
Email Follow-Up | Status of a dynamic follow-up email | Sent, Scheduled, Not Sent or Scheduled (Leads page only) |
Lead Completion | Whether a lead's information is completely filled out | Is Complete, Is Not Complete (Dynamic Sync and Follow-Up only) |
Special Cases and Exceptions
A few fields do not follow the standard rules for their type. Keep these in mind when building filters:
Field | What's Different |
GDPR Consent Date | Only offers Is Set and Is Not Set. All other date comparisons are hidden for this field, everywhere it appears.
|
Meetings Booked (yes/no) | Behaves like a checkbox: Checked or Unchecked only. |
Meetings Booked (Popl Users) | Shows as a simple Is / Is Not choice, even though it can match more than one teammate behind the scenes. |
Lead Entries / Completed Leads | Only offers Is and Is Not, with a single value rather than a multi-select list. |
Differences Between the Leads Page and the Sync/Follow-Up Modals
A few filters work differently depending on where you're building them:
Date ranges. Only Dynamic Sync and Dynamic Follow-Up let you filter for a date range with Is Between. The Leads page only offers exact day, after, or before.
Owner filters. On the Leads page, you can filter for leads with no owner assigned using Is Set or Is Not Set. In Dynamic Sync and Dynamic Follow-Up, owner filters only support Is Any Of and Is Not.
Leads-only fields. Tags, Event Flow, Sync & Export, Email Follow Up, and Meetings Booked cannot be used to build a Dynamic Sync path or a follow-up email path. These are only available as filters on the Leads page.
Labels. The same logic sometimes appears under a different label depending on where you are. For example, an exact date match shows as "Equals" on the Leads page but "Is" in Dynamic Sync and Dynamic Follow-Up. The underlying behavior is identical; only the wording changes.
